Hirwaun Rhondda_Cynon_Taff Wales
The Cynon Valley is a valley in South Wales and is situated between the valleys of Rhondda and Merthyr Tydfil. The former coal mining valley contains the settlements of Aberdare, which is an industrial town sitting at the confluence of the Cynon and Dare Rivers. The town of Mountain Ash lies to the south of the valley. | The River Cynon (Afon Cynon) runs through the valley and emerges at Cwm Cadlan within the Brecon Beacons National Park. The river converges with the River Taff and is one of the major rivers joining the Taff. Springs from the Penderyn region join the Cynon River along its journey. The Cynon Valley cycle path follows the Cynon River from the Hirwaun and Penderyn region and continues on to Abercynon. The path takes you past interesting historical sites and much wildlife. Many walks surround the Cynon Valley including the Cwm Morgannwg Way, which crosses the valley close to Aberdare.
