Here you can buy locally sourced produce at the farm shop, home reared meat in the butchery, taste the delights in Sparrow's Cafe, discover more about the Battle of Shrewsbury in the Exhibition or simply enjoy the fresh air along the Battlefield walk. Our aim is to create a happy, relaxed and popular visitor destination where everyone feels welcome. Battlefield 1403 Exhibition is housed in a converted stable unit and cattle shed, situated on the left hand side as you enter the courtyard. Admission to the Exhibition is FREE. Here the story of the Battle of Shrewsbury is told. It was fought on 21st July 1403 between king Henry IV and a rebellious faction led by the Percy family. Battlefield 1403 Exhibition: The exhibition explains the facts as we know them and introduces additional fun facts for children narrated by "Archie Sparrow". Exhibits on display include a full armoured "Sir Nicholas", various weaponry, a longbow archer and other medieval artefacts. Farm Shop: Our shop provides an outlet for a range of excellent foods which are sourced locally. They have low food miles, full traceability and great taste. Seasonality, freshness and high standards of production are very important to us. Butchery: At Battlefield we are proud of our butchery, where the product displays form a stunning centre piece to the farm shop. The Beef and Lamb are reared on our own farm, part of the Albrighton Estate. In the spring and summer months the cattle and sheep can be seen grazing outside the shop and butchery windows. All other meat is sourced locally from within 15 miles of the shop. Our producers have been careully selected and all practice the highest standards of care and welfare for their animals. The following is just a selection of products available at the Battlefield Butchery- Traditional Beef Steaks, T/Bone, Rib eye, Sirloin, Rump and Fillet, Speciality Beef Wellingtons, Beef Roulade, Lamb carvery legs, boned/rolled shoulders, Racks of Lamb, Stuffed Lamb Steaks, Free Range Chicken, Speciality Shropshire Blue Chicken and Bacon Parcels and Chicken Porpietts, kebabs, steaks, chops, stir-frys and king ribs. Sparrow's Cafe: Sparrow's Cafe is positioned at the top of the courtyard. Originally cattle cubicles and a hay loft this building now seats 60 covers and is open all day from Monday - Sunday. The menu offers something for everyone, including a breakfast menu available from 9.30am - 11.30am (10am - 11.30am on Sundays). Throughout the day visitors can choose from "Light - Bites" or "Little - Extras", Filled Rolls, Main Courses, Cakes and Desserts and the Archie Sparrow Childrens Menu. To accompany the menu a wide range of hot and cold drinks soft drinks are available. Sparrow's is also a licensed establishment and sells a good range of Tanners Wines - available by the glass or bottle, local beers from Woods Brewery in Craven Arms and ciders from Mahoralls in Ludlow.
