Lovely little cottage. Very cosy with log fire. Few amenities close by but Llangollen is a lovely town not far away. Steam trains were great. Tea room on platform opposite cottage very cosy. Rail staff all friendly. Nice walking area. Decent kitchen. Would definitely stay here again.

Charming location and adequate to our needs at the time, but not suitable for entertaining. Catering supplies have to be taken as there are no local shopping facilities. Lovely North Wales scenery all around. However, we chose this as a base while we visited family, rather than for recreation (It was December!).

Ideal place for someone interested in the railway. Remember to check the train timetables before booking or else you could easily miss the opportunity to see them.
The cottage itself is very well equipped and everything is there for your comfort.
The only thing that could improve it would be if you could move the A5 away for the top of the road as it is very busy with lorries which come through the village very quickly.

We have stayed at Porters Lodge twice now with our Cocker Spaniel. The location is ideal for watching the steam trains. We walked along the canal from Llangollen to the viaduct. It is so nice to return to a cosy comfortable cottage after a day outdoors. The wood burner is great for making the cottage warm in early November!

Well laid out, good cooking facilities and great location even if the train isn't running.
Owner was very prompt with key collection details and instructions were clear

A train spotter's dream! Very comfortable, clean, well-equipped cottage right next door to the Llangollen Steam Railway. Quiet location with beautiful views.

Lovely and peaceful! Do not be deceived by the directions - there is no longer a village shop! Enjoyed watching the trains and would love to go back.

Wow what a lovely place!! Everything you needed !
The surrounding area was great!
To round it off the steam trains going past your door was a delight and our train spotting dog loved it getting a special whistle from the driver !! We shall be returning and can recommend this wonderful cottage.

We had a wonderful week in the porters lodge..it was very clean and had everything one needed..
The location was great .
if you are a train buff like us it took us back about 50 years riding on the old steam trains.
Would definitely recommend this holiday..

Perfect location (especially if you like trains) next to the platform of a heritage steam railway. Trains every hour of so between 10.30 and 16.30, so not too busy! Idyllic and quiet rural spot in Dee valley. The Lodge was renovated only 2 years ago, very nicely done, in very good condition, very comfortable and well equipped. Within striking distance of Snowdonia. A number of National Trust properties nearby, very nice canal walk to spectacular aqueduct.
