Malltraeth is a village set in a bay in the south western corner of the Isle of Anglesey, North Wales. It lies 13.2 miles from Menai Bridge and is bordered by Trefdraeth to the north, Hermon to the west and Llangaffo to the east. The Afon Cefni (Cefni River) flows through the village to its estuary at Malltraeth Bay.
Malltraeth abounds with birds, and there is an RSPB reserve in the Newborough Forest area, around 2.5km south east of the village. Charles Tunnicliffe has many brilliant paintings of these birds, which can now be seen at Oriel Ynys Mon near the town of Llangefni, 14 minutes from Malltraeth.
For those who have a liking for beaches, the sands of Newborough Warren are only 3.1 miles south east of Malltraeth. At low tide visitors can walk across the sand to Llanddwyn Island, where the romantic ruins of the church of St Dwynwen, patron saint of Welsh lovers, can be visited. Other attractions in the area include a standing stone to the north of Malltraeth, whilst the Isle of Anglesey Coastal Path passes through the village.
