Hope is a village in Flintshire North East Wales situated between Wrexham to the south and the town of Hawarden to the north. Straddling the A550 the village overlooks the Alyn Valley toward Caergwrle and Hope Mountain.
Indeed it is said that one "lives in Hope and is buried in Caergwrle" which I can only surmise refers to the fact that Hope Church graveyard is full! Hope Parish Church sits in the heart of the village and rather unusually it is dedicated to not one but two Celtic Saints ..St Cynfarch of the 5th Century and St Cyngar of the 6th Century. As with many Welsh villages the church sits close to that other place of worship the pub...in Hope's case ...two pubs. Again there is a multiple choice with one pub dedicated to the Red Lion and the other dedicated to the White Lion.
The White Lion seems to be more of a sports pub, with a Sky TV banner plastered across the walls, while the Red Lion offers the more genteel opportunity to partake of coffee and biscuits as well as the more usual pub fayre of good beers.
