Broughton lies near the England-Wales border in the county of Flintshire, North Wales. It is bordered by Bretton to the north, Lower Kinnerton to the south, Penymynydd to the west and Eccleston to the east. Nearby towns and villages include Queensferry, Chester, Shotton, Connah's Quay, Buckley, Northop, Mold, Dodleston and Caergwrle.
The town also has a popular shopping park, known simply as Broughton Shopping Park where branches of major stores such as Tesco can be found. There is also a large Next store. In the village centre there is a small collection of shops and a principal social centre.
The Old Warren area of the town is said to be haunted, with many mysterious lights and figures being seen. One haunting includes that of a 'floating vicar', who in the past appeared to couples visiting the woods together.
