We visited Cemaes last week and really fell for this small picturesque resort. Feeling peckish we bought some fish and chips and wandered down to the harbour to watch the activity, whilst consuming our meal. Afterwards, a half hour walk across the beach created a thirst so we headed to Ye Olde Vigour Inn on the High Street - Bad decision. We ordered four drinks from the landlady, who seemed totally disinterested and decidedly surly and quite rude. When eventually she placed (thumped) the drinks on the bar, I picked up the two pints and proceeded to take them outside to our wives. Being a happy sort of chap, I was whistling gently to myself as I left. "What's up with him?" said the landlady to my son when I'd gone,"what's he got to be so happy about?" Taken aback by the comment he said nothing and followed me outside. She later came to our table, looked at our empty glasses, clattered them together and returned to the bar without comment. As we left I asked a chap, sitting on the wall on his own, if she was always like that - he raised his eyes upwards and just nodded and said, "don't ask." - Nuff said. WE won't be going back and I'll recommend to my friends, when visiting Cemaes, that if they fancy a drink, then don't go to Ye Olde Vigour - try The Stag next door which seemed to be doing brisk business - I wonder why. My star rating for Cemaes is 5 - for the pub a big 0.
