Coychurch is located near the town of Bridgend in South Wales, with the towns and villages of Pencoed, Cowbridge and Sarn situated close by.
The village is the location of a local legend surrounding King Arthur. |
After being killed in a battle near Ogmore Castle, the king was secretly buried in a cave in COed-y-Mwstwr forest behind Coychurch, because it was feared that his death might divide the country. When his son finally came to replace him at the throne, King Arthur’s death was announced and his body was moved to a proper grave at Cors Emrys church near Pencoed.
