Penbedw Park Stone
Circle
The circle is approximately 40 metres in diameter. There were originally
eleven stones but only 4
stones remain - the missing stones have been replaced with
long established oak trees. The largest remaining stone is 1.5 metres
high, and 1.0 metres wide.
There is an outlying standing stone 250 metres
due West of the main circle. A well preserved round barrow or tumulus
lies 500 metres to the North.
It is believed to be
the only one of its kind in North East Wales and some authorities believe
it dates from the Bronze Age (2000 - 1250 BC), while others believe it
is a fake.
Directions: [ Map
of Penbedw Stone Circle location ]
The Penbedw Circle can be seen from the main A541 Mold - Denbigh
road, approx. 5 miles from Mold and 8 miles from Denbigh. There
is a lay-by on the A541 a few hundred yards past the left fork
that leads to Cilcain. The circle is on private land but it can
be seen from the road near the lay-by or walk back to the Cilcain
junction and walk up the minor road for a hundred yards and the
circle is visible from a field gateway. Incidentally the minor
road leads to the hillfort known as Moel Arthur. |
