As their name suggests the Trefriw Fairy Falls are situated in Trefriw, a village in the Conwy Valley, North Wales. They are believed to have been named by the Victorians who were fascinated with fairies and identified many enchanting locations as home to these mythical creatures. Indeed there is an abundance of Welsh Folklore concerning the fairies, or the Tylwyth Teg, who would dance on the banks of the Conwy and play tricks on the locals. But whether you believe in fairies or not this is a magical spot. But if you wish to see the falls at their best then time your visit to coincide with the rainy season, which in Wales means any month but June, and even then you might be unlucky! Only joking! But seriously the falls are sometimes reduced to a trickle when water is diverted through the large pipe that feeds the hydro-electric system for the Trefriw Woollen Mill downstream. In winter it is often a different scene with torrents of water pounding down and slowly eroding the rocks at the bottom of the falls to form deep plunge pools.
