Cwm Garw is situated to the west of the capital of Cardiff, in the county of Bridgend. Ogmore Vale is situated under 2 miles to the east of Cwm Garw, which has the A4064 running through it. This is a spectacular valley with dense forestry areas and steep sides, including Mynydd Moelgeila and Pen y Foel Mountain lying either side of the valley. The area has been a popular setting for many major films and contains the settlements of the former mining village of Pontycymer and Pont y Rhyl. |The River Garw (Afon Garw) runs through the valley and with it’s source at Blaengarw, is around 12 miles in length. The River Ogmore and the River Llyfni confluence with the River Garw and pass through the villages of Talagwyn, Pantygog, Llangeinor and Brynmenyn. Many walks and cycle paths pass through and around the valley, including the Parc Calon Lan walk, which is a 5 mile circular walk. A National Cycle Network route runs through Garw Valley and starts at Bryn Garw House and runs along the old railway and finishes at Blaengarw.
