The Gwili Railway is a living reminder of a Great Western Railway branch line set in the breathtaking Carmarthenshire hills. The trip down memory lane starts at Bronwydd Arms Station, and the steam train follows the route, originally taken by the Carmarthen to Aberystwyth line. A sharp climb out of Bronwydd village takes you through the wooded hills and open fields, hugging the river all the while. On this line, you are never far away from water! Again the train climbs away from the village of Pentre Morgan, and crosses the river into Llwyfan Cerrig. the train then runs next to the river for the next 3/4 mile along the new extension, before twisting in to our new terminus at Danycoed. Here you can alight to look around the station before the train returns once again back to Llwyfan Cerrig. Here there was once a platform for loading the stone from the quarry which forms an impressive back drop to the station. There is a restored station building, taken plank by plank from Felin Fach, where now, you can imagine buying a day return to Aberystwyth or Strata Florida! If the weather is fine, you can relax alongside the weir and enjoy a picnic, or walk the quarry workings above the station, whilst others might like to take a free ride on the miniature railway.....
