Common Knapweed, Centaurea nigra, is a species of flowering plant in the daisy family known by the common names Lesser Knapweed, and Black Knapweed. Our picture shows common knapweed close to Llyn Elsi a lake and reservoir in the Gwydyr Forest, Conwy County, North Wales. Following deforestation the wild flowers flourish and appear to be a favourite food source of peacock butterflies of which there were many hundreds on the day I visited. Common Knapweed is a perennial herb native to Europe and grows to about a metre in height.....
