Merlin was founded in 1999 and initially operated solely in school vacations delivering activities to Christian youth camps. In 2002 Merlin incorporated as a limited company and in 2003 Matt left teaching to work full-time at Merlin. Matt is an experienced and enthusiastic teacher and outdoor instructor, he holds the coveted Mountain Instructor Award and is a full member of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors. He has extensive experience of climbing throughout the UK as well as mountaineering in the Alps and Pyrenees. Matt was the inaugural Welsh Regional Secretary of the Institute for Outdoor Learning and remains an ordinary member of the committee. These are the main activities we offer, others can be arranged, just ask. All these can be run at a variety of levels to suit your experience or ability. Rock Climbing - Experience the thrill of moving over rock, challenge yourself and delight in the texture of the rock. Hill Walking - Trekking and hill-walking give you the chance to explore. We value remoteness and solitude in the mountains and will seek to take you far away from crowds. Caving - Discover the hidden world beneath your feet. South Wales boasts world class caving and some spectacular natural beauty. The only way to see it is to get down there and explore. Gorge Walking - Find a steep river with waterfalls, chutes, and pools; now follow it! Progress is made by jumps, climbs and slides, and all add to the fun. This is a great full or half day activity and ideal as a team-building activity. Canoeing/Kayaking - Enjoy the quiet of the river environment or get your adrenalin flowing on fast flowing rapids, the choice is yours.....
