Lying on the southern slope of Cockett Valley about two miles from Swansea, Cwmllwyd Wood consists mainly of oak trees planted 100 years ago and two ponds that provide a haven for wildlife. The area has a history of coal mining from the 17th century onward, with the remains of about 35 bell pits visible within the reserve. Guided visits are available for schools and groups.
