Barmouth Bridge spans the estuary of the Afon Mawddach river in Gwynedd, West Wales. The bridge carries the Cambrian Railway Line, which runs from Shrewsbury in Shropshire, England, to Pwllheli, Wales. Pedestrians can cross the bridge on payment of a small toll fee. (£1.00 in 2010 for one person and one bicycle). The toll is the same for a single or same day return crossing. | The bridge was built by the Aberystwyth and Welsh Coast Railway and opened in 1867. The bridge was closed to locomotive-hauled trains in 1980. Following several years of repairs the bridge was finally fully reopened in 2005.
