Carnedd y Saeson in Abergwyngregyn
. Abergwyngregyn Gwynedd Wales
Carnedd y Saeson, Cairn of the Englishman, is a prehistoric cairn of 2000.B.C. to be found close to Abergwyngregyn in North Wales. It is about 10m across, with a large stone cist or grave exposed at its centre. This would have held an unburnt body, perhaps accompanied by personal belongings for the afterlife. The edge of the cairn is marked by several rings of large stones, more elaborate than the normal kerb and probably originally concealed, like the cist itself, beneath a heap of stones which have been removed over the years. Directions: Follow the lane south from the village of Aber to the car park at Bont Newydd. Cross the bridge and continue up the hill for another .75 mile to end of road. Walk through gate and up hollow way. Cairns are close to top above the track to the Anafon valley.
