Llanfechell Anglesey Wales
The Llanfechell Standing Stones are located 600m north
west of the centre of Llanfechell, in the North of Anglesey, North
Wales. The three stones are set on the summit of a low hill and are
visible from a wide area. They are an unusual group of three stones of
similar size seemingly facing inwards toward each other. They appear
shaped to represent the human form, but maybe that is my imagination.
Indeed I think William Shakespeare must have come to Llanfechell as
these are surely what inspired the bard to write :
Macbeth: Act 1, Scene 1. Enter three WITCHES.
When shall we three meet again?
In thunder, lightning, or in rain?
When the hurlyburly's done,
When the battle's lost and won.
That will be ere the set of sun.
Where the place? Upon the heath.
......Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and cauldron bubble.
The stones are found on a public footpath but I would recommend visiting
the stones from the south (village) side of the pathway, as the path
from the north cuts through a field populated with bullocks. On leaving
the village towards the north turn last left and the footpath is after
the 3rd house on the right.
