Ty
Mawr (or Big House) was the birthplace of Bishop William Morgan,
the first translator of the Bible into Welsh. It is situated in the Snowdonia
National Park, in the Wybrnant Valley. The house has been restored to its
16th17th-century appearance and houses a display of Welsh bibles.
A footpath leads from the house through woodland and the surrounding fields,
which are traditionally managed. Ty Mawr is accessible from the Lledr Valley
via the Forestry Commission pathways. The road is very steep when entering
the Wybrnant valley from the Lledr Valley but it is well worth the climb
for the beautiful views. There are pleasant waterfalls to the left of the
road near to the top of the hill. |
