Newport County Association Football Club are a football club based in the city of Newport, South Wales, they currently play in the Conference National which is the highest level of the National League System. The club was Founded in 1912 and were founder members of the Football League's new Third Division in 1920. Newport County, are nicknamed “The Exiles,” “The Port” and "The Ironsides" due to the steelworks being preset in Newport. The club started out in the Southern League in 1912 at Somerton Park and after almost twenty years in the Third Division South, the club finally clinched promotion to the Second Division as champions in 1939. Newport County reside and play their home games at Newport Stadium, with a capacity of 4,700, which is also home to Llanwern FC and Newport Harriers FC.
