Wales Millennium Centre, on Cardiff Bay waterfront, is the most exciting cultural initiative happening in Europe today. An international receiving house for opera, ballet, dance and musicals, it also houses under one roof seven diverse and exciting cultural organisations. The Centre opened on 26 November 2004, and quickly established itself as one of the world's leading performing arts and destination venues. I predict the beautiful sculptured facade will become as famous as the iconic Sydney Opera House. Made from Welsh slate and rock to imitate the rugged landscape of Wales, the cliffs of the Pembrokeshire National Park and the massive Snowdonia Slate Quarries. The Wales Millennium Centre must be worth a visit just to see the building ! When you see Wales Millennium Centre you will see that it can only have been designed and built in Wales. The brief to the architects, Percy Thomas, was that it had to be "unmistakably Welsh and internationally outstanding". I believe they have achieved this on both counts. Its just a pity they didn't design the Sennedd, or Welsh Assembly building next door...that's atrocious. ....
