Colwyn Bay Conwy_County Wales
Boats sailing in the Bay of Colwyn. Sailing boats, jet skis, fishing boats, trawlers, kayaks and stand up paddle boards are all to be seen in the Bay of Colwyn. We even had a ship wreck at Penmaen Head in 2012 - the MV Carrier went aground at the Llanddulas Jetty.|Fortunately there were no casualties. The huge amount of marine life was also revealed in the Bay in 2012 when storms and high tides left octopus, anemones, sea slugs, whelks, spikey cockles, razor clams and many more sea creatures, stranded high and dry on the upper shore line.|
On a happier note (well maybe not for the anglers)porpoises, seals and dolphins are becoming ever more common in the Bay of Colwyn, with regular sightings throughout the year. |
Seals in particular are becoming very common with one seal regularly appearing on the Eirias Park slipway, close to the new Porth Eirias development.|
Fishing boats sail from the harbour at Rhos-on-Sea, many on fishing boat trips, while others are launched from the Marine Road slipway close to the Rydal-Penrhos boat yard. The Jet Skis launch from the Colwyn Bay end of the promenade. | Come 2013 the new Porth Eirias will be the watersports centre for the Bay of Colwyn, with brand spanking new facilities for all at the new multi million pound coast protection and Watersports Centre.
