We are delighted to welcome Professor Dai Smith Chair of the Arts Council
of Wales to formally open the latest edition to the SCALA Cinema and Arts
Centre complex namely ORIEL SCALA.
It was only in November 2009 less than 3 months ago that 25 local artists
were called to a meeting in the SCALA to be told that the SCALA had
developed a partnership to raise the funds to kit out the SCALA shop and
cover the overheads for 12 months. What was the catch? There wasn’t a
catch only the SCALA’s vision to work with and to support local artists in
the development of their businesses and their work.
This vision would not have been delivered without the help and support of
Bodelwyddan Castle, The Prestatyn Youth Pop-In Centre, The Prestatyn
Youth Arts Festival, Denbighshire County Council, Helfa Gelf and the Scala Staff.
My thanks also to the artists who volunteered to put the shop together
(in about a week) and to Chris Bond who managed to open a new shop
and Cafebar all in one week. The shop is being staffed by the artists themselves
and congratulations go to their newly appointed Chair Claire Halliday.....
