Maes y Gaer (Welsh for Field of the Fort) is an Iron Age hillfort located on a steep sided promontory (220m) above the Aber Valley, in Gwynedd, North Wales. Access to the fort would have been from the east where a gentle slope leads from pastureland. | The walls of the enclosure protect an area 400 ft long and 220 ft wide. Maes y Gaer is strategically placed above the ancient trackway (later the Roman Road) linking the Conwy Valley and the route to the Isle of Anglesey.
