Afon Ddu Gorge in Dolgarrog
Coed Dolgarrog Nature Reserve Dolgarrog Conwy_County Wales
The Afon Ddu Gorge marks the southern edge of the Coed Dolgarrog National Nature Reserve in Snowdonia, North Wales. The gorge is formed by the Afon Ddu which flows from Llyn Cowlyd on the south-eastern edge of the Carneddau range to join the river Conwy. It is one of the most popular venues in Wales for carrying out gorge walking. The gorge is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest for broadleaved woodland, and is home to a number of rare species such as Wilson’s filmy fern, globeflower, water avens and beech fern, yet despite the high volume of usage in the gorge, its diverse flora remains remarkably intact suggesting that gorge walkers are treating the gorge with respect.
