Support grows for Wind Farms off North Wales coast.

A new group called CLOUT  - Conwy Locals Opposing Unnecessary Turbines - has voiced its opinion supporting the growth of offshore windfarms and protesting about any increase in onshore windfarms :

SAY NO TO MORE WIND TURBINES ON SHORE
3 IS ONE THING: 14 IS QUITE ANOTHER

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR TREFRIW

If planning permission is granted, 14 massive wind turbines will dominate the ridge across the valley which Trefriw overlooks.

They will be over 90 meters high - amongst the tallest ever to be built in Britain. They will ruin the views from our village and will spoil one of Wales’s finest landscapes situated within a Landscape Conservation Area. The turbines will be visible from every major peak in Snowdonia.

Other towns and villages like Trefriw where similar developments have occurred are claiming a 30% drop in property values.

The development will damage tourism, will create no new jobs or deliver any community benefits for Trefriw.

The first application for 3 turbines at Moel Maelogan was given permission because of its small-scale nature. 14 turbines constitutes a massive commercial wind farm. And there could be more. The cabling infrastructure has been put in for 25 turbines.

Already two large wind turbine developments are being built off-shore at Rhyl which will more than fulfill North Wales’ obligation to renewable energy. If turbines have to be built, they are better out at sea...............more information >>
