Peter Law Independent MP for Blaenau Gwent Wales died today after a 12 month battle against cancer and the Labour Party.

Mr Lord caused controversy when he refused to stand down at the last election to make way for a women only candidates' list. He stood against the Labour Party candidate, although they had a  massive majority in this once safe Labour seat, and he won.

Mr Lord was told by his doctor that he had a brain tumour soon after declaring his intention to stand for election. But he did not retire from the fight and continued with the election campaign and the hospital treatment. He won the battle against the Labour Party but could not win the fight against cancer. But he lived to see his 6 month old grand child.
