Enjoying fine uninterrupted views over parkland towards the River Severn and the Wrekin Hill, Cronkhill Farmhouse occupies a delightful elevated position on the National Trust’s Attingham Park Estate. Dating from the 17th century, this Grade I listed timber-framed farmhouse was remodelled in 1801 by John Nash to match the adjoining property (a NT property, open 6 days a year). Period features abound internally, with beamed ceilings in many rooms. A walled garden with fruit trees and brick apple store also form part of the large and secure grounds of the Farmhouse. Offering spacious holiday accommodation, the property is ideal for larger parties and family reunions. A local shop, bistro and traditional country pub are all within ½ mile of Cronkhill and the property provides the perfect base from which to explore the local countryside and towns of Shropshire, with their many and varied attractions suitable for all ages.
This includes Attingham Park itself, just 1 mile away, at the centre of which is a fine Regency mansion set within a deer park designed by Humphrey Repton. There is extensive year round walking to be enjoyed in the grounds surrounding the mansion, which is also open in season. Three ruined abbeys - Haughmond, Buildwas and Wenlock - and the remains of the ancient Roman city of ‘Wroxeter’, are close by. To the south are the Church Stretton Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, offering extensive hiking and outdoor activities. Eight miles to the east is the World Heritage site of Ironbridge, birthplace of the industrial revolution, with its many museums. The medieval market town of Shrewsbury lies 3 miles to the north, with its fine castle and a wealth of period architecture, in addition to theatres, cinemas, excellent restaurants, cafes and good shopping. To the south is the ancient fortified town of Ludlow, with its Georgian architecture and fine 11th-century castle (which provides the setting for the famous Shakespeare Festival) in addition to antique shops, food shops and Michelin star restaurants.
