Tewkesbury, just 11/2 miles away, stands as a small market town, largely untouched by the Industrial Revolution and is characterised by timber-framed medieval buildings and elegant Georgian houses. Being at the convergence point of four main roads, there is easy access from here to the towns of Gloucester, Worcester, Ledbury and Evesham - these all being within a distance of 15 miles. The pretty Cotswold villages nearby - renowned for their attractive honey-coloured stone houses - stand as witness to the prosperous times of the wool trade, when rich merchants during the fourteenth to sixteenth centuries built many of the area's fine manors and churches from local stone. There is plenty of gentle walking to enjoy in the surrounding valleys, whilst the more dramatic Cotswold Way, running along the top of a ridge, passes through Cheltenham on its way from Chipping Campden to Bath lying further to the south.
