Brookside Farm
New Radnor, Presteigne, Powys. Powys, Wales
Brookside is a fine traditional Grade ll listed stone farmhouse, sitting on the edge of New Radnor village. Sympathetically furnished with old and antique furniture, it retains much of its charm and character with beams, oak floorboards and winding staircase. Bordered by a small stream, it lies beneath the `Castle Mound' the site of a former Norman Keep. Part of the house originated from the 16th century and the newer Victorian frontage overlooks the mature enclosed south facing garden, well stocked with cottage plants, rose bed, two lawns and a hot tub for guests relaxation and enjoyment. Within the local area is Offas Dyke for excellent walking. Opened in the summer of 1971, this scenic path links Sedbury Cliffs near Chepstow on the banks of the Severn estuary with the coastal town of Prestatyn on the shores of the Irish sea. It is named after, and often follows, the spectacular Dyke which King Offa ordered to be constructed. Along its 177 miles, it passes through eight different counties and crosses the border between England and Wales over 20 times. The Trail explores the the border region (known as the tranquil Marches) and passes through the Brecon Beacons National Park on the spectacular Hatterall Ridge. It also links three Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty - the Wye Valley, the Shropshire Hills and the Clwydian Hills. Apart from the wonderful walking opportunities afforded in the area, cycling and golfing are also available for visitors. There are lovely rural pubs to sample and two notable restaurants are within easy reach (7 miles at Kington). For lovers of fine food, the much-acclaimed Ludlow boasts several Michelin star restaurants, where visitors can also admire almost 500 listed buildings, many of which are half-timbered black-and-white houses. Brecon, Hay-on-Wye and Hereford are all within comfortable driving distance.......
