Occupying an elevated position above the picturesque resort of Barmouth and Cardigan Bay, Deronda provides well-appointed accommodation that has been lovingly restored to a very high standard. Standing detached, the property boasts excellent views across Cardigan Bay, long stretches of golden sands and the southern Snowdonia mountain range. Built in 1920 in one of the most prominent positions in Barmouth, Deronda is surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenic countryside in North Wales. Just a 5-minute walk from town and 375 yards from the beach, Deronda is ideally situated for those with or without a vehicle. Great fun can be had in this area of high diversity - exploring valleys, wild open moorland, as well as lakes and mountains. It is also a mecca for ramblers, and surfers - often tempted here depending on the swell. Owing to its situation on the west coast of North Wales, the property is within easy reach of numerous attractions which include Portmeirion, the unusual private Italianate village. Created by an eccentric architect, the village comprises a collection of endangered buildings from Britain and abroad, designed around a Mediterranean piazza and including a campanile and pantheon. A further place of interest for all the family to enjoy is the Corris Craft Centre near Machynlleth, where local items are produced and sold (leather goods, jewellery, turned wood, candles) and where the legends of King Arthur are brought to life with sound and lighting effects as an underground boat transports visitors magically through a waterfall and deep into the spectacular caverns under the Braichgoch mountain. Together with the Y Crochan Restaurant serving a range of Welsh food, this makes for a memorable day out. Founded in 1974, another notable attraction is the Centre for Alternative Technology, which, once a derelict slate quarry, has now become almost an entirely self-sufficient community generating 80% of its own power from sun, wind and water, and its houses showcase energy-saving ideas. Celtica (the centre for all things Celtic), and Harlech Castle are other places to visit, not to mention the famous Cadir Idris mountain. Locally there are train rides along the seafront, an abundance of amusement arcades, donkey rides on the beach and a fun fair. Alternatively, strolls can be enjoyed along the promenade towards the harbour where locally caught fish are prepared and put on sale. Numerous bars, cafÃ?Å¡s and restaurants nearby.
