Situated amidst extensive grounds, with no immediate neighbours, this very spacious detached house occupies a semi-isolated position and enjoys a setting of great tranquility. Originally a medieval house and Victorian barn, the property is, for the most part, beamed throughout, and still retains an inglenook fireplace. Occupying a south-facing position, there is an al fresco dining area, where wonderful views can be savoured whilst enjoying a meal out of doors.
There is ample parking by the house, and there are private walks straight from the door over 450 acres of farmland and woodland where lakes and a waterfall also feature. Views towards the Brecon Beacons can be seen, whilst the ruins of the medieval Talley Abbey, together with its lakes can also be observed in the distance.
The historic gardens of Aberglasney are close by, together with the large manor house dating back to the 15th century. Overgrown until recently, the walled gardens have been restored to former glory and the kitchen garden replanted; a yew tunnel adds further interest. A few miles away, Newton House (NT) stands within the grounds of the tumbledown ruins of Dinefwr Old Castle. The landscaped parkland surrounding the house is now home to rare white cattle, fallow deer and a woodland nature reserve. Carreg Cennen Castle, 4 miles from Llandeilo is also worth a visit. Said to be the most magnificently sited castle in the whole of Wales, it perches 300ft above a sheer drop into the valley of the Cennen River. Between Llandeilo and Llandovery, the Dolaucothi Gold Mine (also NT) offers visitors a chance to pan for gold. Fishing, cycling, walking and horse riding interests are all catered for in the area, as well as golf, quad trekking and bird-watching. Pub nearby.
