Pontsticill is a village found in the county of Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales. It lies at the foot of the Pontsticill Reservoir, with the Taf Fechan river travelling through the village centre and running onwards to its confluence with the river Taff at Merthyr Tydfil. A cycle trail and walking route pass through Ponsticill, both making their way up the western side of the reservoir. The Taff Trail, as it is known, is a multi-purpose route between Cardiff in the South and the Market Town of Brecon in the North. 55 miles (88km) in length, it passes through a wide variety of landscapes and the open moorland of the Brecon Beacons. The village is also less than 1km away from the renowned Brecon Mountain Railway, and for something a little different a ringed cairn sits just north of the village centre. There is a golf course 3.8km south east of the village, whilst several museums and a leisure centre can be found in nearby Merthyr Tydfil, 7.7km south of Ponsticill.
