Amlwch
Amlwch is a small town on the north coast of Anglesey, North Wales. Probably best known for it's association with Parys Mountain and the copper mines. Copper was probably worked here in Roman times but the mining reached it's zenith in the 18th Century. The demand for the copper was so great that a new port was built at Amlwch in the late 18th Century. Today the port still retains much of its original character but is used for trawlers and pleasure boats.
Amlwch and indeed Anglesey as a whole is now a popular centre for tourists and the small town offers coastal walks, angling, and activity holidays. Wildlife lovers will appreciate dolphin sightings that are common off Point Lynas just 3 miles from Amlwch. And although there may not be the 60 alehouses of byegone days that were necessary to slake the thirst of the copper miners Amlwch still offers a warm welcome and good hospitality to 21st Century visitors.....
