Pwll-y-Wrach, the Witches Pool... or should we say the
enchanted pool?
It's
a new dawn it's a new day, it's a new millennium and a new life for Pwll-y-Wrach.The
pool has been a talking point on the BBC website no less. In recent years
locals were surprised to find flowers placed on the banks of the the
pool and it became somewhat of a mystery as to who was placing the flowers.
The pool took on a new lease of life and people were pleased to visit
the pool.
But what was it that changed the fortunes of the old witches pool?
Well the story goes that the pool had been a favourite spot for a
girl who lived on Flint Mountain. The girl became a young woman and
began courting a young man from Colwyn Bay. The hillside and the enchanted
pool were a favourite place for the young couple. Indeed they married
and lived close by on the lower slopes of the hill. Over the years they
brought up their family but would still visit the Witches Pool.
But sadly in the new millennium the young lady from the hillside passed
away. Heartbroken her husband would visit Pwll y Wrach in remembrance
of his love. The seasons changed from winter to spring and passers by
would notice the change in the Witches Pool. Flowers left in remembrance
encouraged others to care for the pool. The pool was dredged and cleared,
new flowers were encouraged to grow until today the pool is a pool of
light, yes maybe still an enchanted pool, but surely not a witches pool.
