Other attractions include The Dylan Thomas Boat House and Pembrey Country
Park. Dylan Thomas was one of the greatest writers from Wales and although
he was born in Swansea his family roots were in Carmarthenshire and it was
this county that provided him with a constant source of inspiration. He
lived at the Boathouse for the last four years of his life during which
time many major pieces of work were written - including Under Milk Wood.
For
the
Golf enthusiasts there are a number of
first class Golf Courses including Garnant Park, Glynhir Golf Club in Llandybie,
Ammanford, the 100 year old Royal Ashburnham located at Burry Port, Glyn
Abbey Golf Club opened in just 1992, Carmarthen Golf Club located 4 miles
outside Carmarthen, and Derllys Court, a shorter 18 hole par 70 pay and
play course.
Fishing enthusiasts have the pick of classic rivers like the Teifi, Tywi
and Cothi renowned for their salmon and sea-trout, while sea anglers can
cast off from almost anywhere along the coast and enjoy excellent bass fishing.
There is also a wide range of more strenuous outdoor activities available
from orienteering, abseiling,
canoeing, and horse
riding. The Marros Riding Centre at Pendine caters for beach
rides, Hacks and Mountain rides.
